Stinky Fruit!

Durian

So smelly it is prohibited in many public places, like this hotel.

Sunday after church we finally had the chance to try this famous stinky fruit.

The locals say it is quite good for you and if you can get past the smell the taste is good.

Micah has tried Durian once before.  He was willing to go back for another try.  

The texture is creamy.  It looks like boiled chicken on a bone.  The seed in the middle is large like a round bone.

It smells fowl, like spoiled trash.

Lydia did not seem to like this South East Asian treat.

Micah kept trying to like it.  After three big bites, he felt queezy and called it quits.

I tried a small bite of two different kinds a light colored one and a more orange colored one.  They both tasted like spoiled chicken to me.  It is unusual that a fruit can taste like that.  More savory than sweet.  Durian has a lot of protein and other nutrients.  It ferments as it hits oxygen, so it can taste a bit sour.  Wow!  Not one of my favorite fruits.
